The song I chose for my music video is "Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol. I was always drawn by this song because of its powerful lyrics and message, and the rebellious vibe it gives off. This song makes me feel alive and free, exactly like the energy I want to have in my music video.
"Rebel Yell" transmits a message of female empowerment, of freedom, and of living your life care free and however you want to live your life. This song encourages people to be yourself and express yourself without fear, to embrace who you are without a shame.
Released and written in 1983, Rebel Yell became one of the most iconic rock songs of its era, and even years later, it remained as popular as it was back then.
In my music video, I want to bring the message that Billy Idol is sharing to life. I want to encourage people to be carefree, to live authentically, and to ignore social norms and judgment. Through my music video I want to capture the confidence, joy, and independence of multiple women being themselves, not caring about the "traditional ideas" of how they should actually be.
Lyrics: Last night, a little dancer came dancin' to my door
Last night, a little angel came pumpin' on my floor
She said, "Come, baby, you got a license for love
And if it expires, pray help from above," because
In the midnight hour, she cried, "More, more, more"
With a rebel yell, she cried, "More, more, more,"
In the midnight hour, babe, "More, more, more"
With a rebel yell, "More, more, more
She don't like slavery, she won't sit and beg
But when I'm tired and lonely, she sees me to bed
What set you free and brought you to me, babe?
What set you free? I need you here by me, because
In the midnight hour, she cried, "More, more, more"
With a rebel yell, she cried, "More, more, more,"
In the midnight hour, babe, "More, more, more"
With a rebel yell, "More, more, more"
He lives in his own Heaven
Collects it to go from the 7-Eleven
Well, he's out all night to collect a fare
Just so long, just so long it don't mess up his hair
Whoa, ah!
I walked the world for you, babe
A thousand miles with you
I dried your tears of pain, babe
A million times for you
I'd sell my soul for you, babe
For money to burn for you
I'd give you all and have none, babe
Just to, just to, just to, just to, to have you here by me, because
In the midnight hour, she cried, "More, more, more"
With a rebel yell, she cried, "More, more, more," wow!
In the midnight hour, babe, "More, more, more"
With a rebel yell, she cried, "More, more, more
More, more, more"
Ooh yeah, little baby
She want more
Ooh yeah, little angel
She want more
...
Rebel Yell has a rebellious, female empowering energy that it's impossible to miss. The song's vibe and lyrics are bold and daring, making the audience want to break rules and societal norms, which is exactly what drew me to it.
For my own music video, I want to transmit the energy that Billy Idol transmits through his lyrics and music video. Even if the music video will not be the same as "Rebel Yell", I want the atmosphere to be similar to the one in it. The idea of my music video is to capture freedom and self-expression.
